If you want eyes on your social media content as a business, you need to get people to stop. There is so much coming at people demanding their attention. But how do you make this happen for your business in Halifax, Dartmouth, Truro and elsewhere?

The picture I took from my iPhone 6, above, might have been the picture of a lifetime. You can take 1000 pictures and end up with just one super one. This was just that picture. My wife even loved it and told me so.

When I posted this picture to Facebook, people really connected with it. They saw things that I even failed to see at the moment. One person suggested that this would be a great Farmer’s Market promo photo. As I looked further, I said “Yes”. Who knew that when I pulled over on the side of the road to take this shot, that it would turn out so well and make people stop to take a look and comment on the post.

But what was it that made people stop?

  • People could relate to the picture – where make live and see daily
  • People could look and see something that really mattered to them – the picture made them dream
  • The picture was relate able to others – they could see themselves there
  • The picture was inspiring – bright colors and awesome theme
  • I took the time to stop and see what I could capture – I could have driven on by and kept it to myself

So how do we get people to stop? We should use material that will attract people’s eyes as they scroll down the social media news feeds. As we travel, we should always be snapping photos for future marketing purposes. If something makes us pull our car over just to look, chances are that it will stop others in their tracks on social media.

We should not always be looking to try to just grab the incredible pictures and videos. Sometimes the super polished stuff does not attract as well as the everyday material. What we share has to be relate able.

Once we have the great picture or video, we can add text to further our marketing. Sometimes we just need to send it out with our business name to remind people that we are there to help them. So as we go about our day and we see something that stops us, we should take a photo or make a video. That is great marketing ammo for a marketing moment.

If we want eyes on our social media content as a business, we need to make sure we give them something to look at.
